Hanzi is Chinese.
Kanji is Japanese.
Hangul is Korean.

Even before I started taking Chinese I knew that each character was a whole syllable. Also, almost everybody knows that Chinese has 3,000 characters, so how could it possibly translate into the English alphabet?
